The oldest school bus is often considered to be a horse-drawn wagon designed specifically for transporting children to school. These early school buses, known as "school hacks" or "kid hacks," were used in the late 19th century. The transition to motorized school buses began in the early 20th century, with Wayne Works (later Wayne Corporation) producing one of the first motorized models in 1914.
