The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) was a U.S. government agency responsible for handling legal and illegal immigration and naturalization processes. It was part of the Department of Justice until it was dissolved in 2003, with its functions transferred to three new agencies under the Department of Homeland Security: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). These agencies now manage immigration services, enforcement, and border security.
