The concept of the bus can be traced back to 1823 when British engineer Sir Goldsworthy Gurney developed a steam-powered carriage, which can be considered an early precursor to the bus. However, the first horse-drawn omnibus service began in 1826 in Nantes, France, by Stanislas Baudry. The development of motorized buses began in the late 19th century, with Karl Benz introducing the first motorized bus in 1895.
